How the Format Works (For Teams)
Single Elimination (Knockout)
- Paired Elimination: Teams are paired up in each round. The winner of each match advances to the next round, while the loser is immediately eliminated from the tournament.
- Seeding & Matchups: The system rounds up the total number of teams to the nearest power of 2 (e.g., 4, 8, 16, 32) and maps them based on their seeds or registration order. The first-round matches are generated using a standard tournament seeding distribution (e.g., for an 8-team bracket, the matchups are:
#1 vs. #8,#4 vs. #5,#2 vs. #7, and#3 vs. #6) to prevent top-ranked seeds from meeting early. - Byes Distribution: If the team count is not a perfect power of 2, the highest-seeded teams (beginning with seed #1, #2, etc.) are paired with empty slots. These teams receive a "Bye" and advance automatically to the next round.
- Champion: The final undefeated team at the end of the tournament bracket is crowned the champion.
